WMCFW: NARCES SPRING/SUMMER 2015

One of my favorite shows by far, Narces took us all on a fairytale adventure with their Spring/Summer 2015 presentation at World Master Card Fashion Week. I kept saying “oh I love that”, “Oh I love that one too”, “ohhhh pretty”. I truly feel that if I was to design a collection it would largely be reminiscent of this one.

On Tuesday, October 21st at 4:00pm, Toronto-based evening wear line, NARCES showcased their Spring/Summer 2015 collection on the runway at World MasterCard® Fashion Week, and I was lucky enough to attend the show!

The Spring/Summer 2015 collection was inspired by the “extravagantly decorated
birdcages of the Victorian age; a time when the birdcages had become
their most magnificent and detailed. Birdcages as décor had been a
trendy item through the 17th and 18th centuries. It wasn’t until the opulence of the Victorian era that the trend reached its peak”.

Designer Nikki Wirthensohn comments… “My family and I were in the south of
Spain last year and I became captivated by a Victorian birdcage
collection on display in a castle,”.
“This led me to more research around the concept of bird cages in
general which coincided with my fascination of mesh materials; both
woven and knitted.” Pretty cool right? I love learning about the designer’s motivations behind their collections don’t you?

The NARCES dresses were very structured, embellished, and set on mesh to “contain
and showcase the female form while floral textures, decorative lace, and
airy woven materials decorate and beautify the garment”.

Soft airy pastels and off-white shades filled the collection with grace and elegance. Luxury fabrics and textures, silk
organza, crepe, mesh, tulle, and stretch knits were all used to create these victorian
(yet very modern and almost 70s inspired in my opinion) dresses. Narces’s signature silk organza circle cocktail dresses reemerged with the new addition of lace and mesh in multi-colour
pastels.

NARCES retails between $400 and $1,200
CDN and is sold in Canada at Holt Renfrew and TNT, as well as
internationally in the USA, Europe, Middle East, and Asia.
